Our History

History and milestones

Our world has changed since 1945, and so has our company. Here’s a quick overview of the major milestones in the history of Delta Industries, Inc.

2000 - The company purchased the ready mix assets of Norman Brothers and established Tri-State Ready mix, with operating plants in Byhalia and Olive Branch, Mississippi and West Helena, Arkansas. The West Helena plant was spun off in 2004.

2000 - Sold assets of Sand and Gravel Division to Meridian Aggregates Company

2000 - Purchased Americrete, Inc, with operating locations in Meridian, Philadelphia and Butler, AL. The Bulter location was sold in 2006.

2001 – A ready mix plant erected to support joint venture with MMC to supply concrete for the Nissan plant in Canton.

2001 – The company purchased Lincoln Ready Mix.

2002 - The company dissolved Great Walls of Concrete.

2003 – The company sold all assets of Farm Fish and dissolved the company.

2004 – The company sold the Masonry Division to Block USA.

2005 – The company purchased Morris Concrete with three plants in the Mobile, AL area, thus creating the Gulf States Alabama Division.

2006 - The company purchased Macon Ready Mix with locations in Macon and DeKalb Mississippi, and Aliceville Alabama.

2010 - The company purchased the Mississippi assets of BCI-Bama Concrete and formed the Golden Triangle Division which now has plants in Columbus, MS, Starkville, MS, Macon, MS and Aliceville, MS.

2011 - The company purchased two Jones Concrete plants in the Hattiesburg, MS area and merged them into the Pine Belt Ready Mix Division.

2016 - The company purchased the ready mix assets of Metro Materials in Memphis, Tennessee, on September 1, 2016, including two plant locations: one off Millbranch Road in Memphis with two onsite batch plants, and one in Cordova, Tennessee. 

2018 - As of January 1, 2018, the company consolidated all of its ready mix concrete assets into Delta Industries, Inc. and ceased operation through other subsidiaries companies.

 

1982 - In an effort to diversify, the company purchased its first shares of Farm Fish, Inc. It eventually acquired controlling interest in two catfish processing plants and a catfish farming operation in the Mississippi Delta.

1989 - The company purchased Simpson County Ready Mix, with plants in Magee and Mendenhall, Mississippi.

1989 - The company purchased Brookhaven Ready Mix in Brookhaven, Mississippi.

1993 - The company erected a ready mix plant in McComb, Mississippi, which operates under the name of Pike County Ready Mix.

1993 - The company purchased Monroe Ready Mix, which had plants in Monroe, Bastrop and Ruston, Louisiana, Jonesboro Ready Mix and Consolidated Ready Mix in Crossett, Arkansas. These plants were sold to Louisiana Industries in 1995.

1994 - A ready mix plant was erected on I-55 South in Hinds County, Mississippi, near Byram.

1994 - The company purchased B&G Ready Mix in Kentwood, Louisiana.

1994 - The company purchased Spencer Ready Mix in Yazoo City, Mississippi.

1997 - The company purchased Walthall Ready Mix in Tylertown, Mississippi.

1997 - The company purchased Amite Ready Mix in Amite, Louisiana.

1997 - Gulf States Ready Mix, a division of Delta Industries, Inc. was erected in Gulfport, Mississippi.

1997 - A ready mix plant was erected to service the Vicksburg, Mississippi area, which operates under the name Vicksburg Ready Mix.

1998 - A new, state of the art block plant was built to replace the one that had been rebuilt in 1979.

1998 - The company purchased Pine Belt Ready Mix with locations in Laurel, Collins, Bay Springs and Taylorsville.

1999 - Great Walls of Concrete, LLC created - selling Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF’s)

1961 - Jackson Ready Mix purchased Traxler Gravel Company located in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, its major supplier of sand and gravel.

1965 - Jackson Ready Mix purchased Rebel Concrete Company in Ridgeland, Mississippi. In 1979 this plant was replaced and we continue to operate at this location.

1966 - Delta Pine Plywood in Beaumont, Mississippi was built by Delta Industries, Inc. In 1971 a second plywood plant was built by Delta in Livingston, Alabama. These plants were sold to the Weyerhauser Company in 1979.

1975 - A ready mix plant was built in Crystal Springs, Mississippi.

1979 - A new block plant was erected on Woodrow Wilson Drive, replacing the original plant built in 1954.

1979 - New ready mix concrete plants were built replacing those built in the 1950’s.

December 28, 1945 - Jackson Ready Mix was organized under the laws of the State of Mississippi and the corporate charter was issued. The company started its original ready mixed concrete plant at its current location on Woodrow Wilson Drive in what was then Northeast Jackson. The original mixer truck fleet consisted of 22 army surplus trucks.

1950 - A second ready mixed concrete plant was erected on Julienne Street in South Jackson, Mississippi.

1954 - A concrete block plant was erected at the Woodrow Wilson Drive location.

1958 - A facility to manufacture Miss-Lite (our trade name) a structural lightweight aggregated used in the manufacture of concrete blocks, lightweight concrete, a seal aggregate for roads and many other uses, was built. This facility operated until 1992.
